In connection with this year's True/False Film Fest, The Look of Silence has been selected as the recipient of the 2015 True Life Fund. The purpose of the fund is to "offer tangible assistence to the real-life subjects of a new non-fiction-film", supporting and honoring those who appear in front of the camera.
The funds raised through the True Life Fund will assist Adi Rukun, the brave protagonist of director Joshua Oppenheimer's documentary, and his family in relocating in order to avoid potential backlash from the film. Additionally, the funds are meant to allow Adi "to secretly travel to screenings of the film around Indonesia, where public dialogue about the genocide of 1965-66 is just beginning to take place".
The True Life Fund is sponsored by True/False Film Fest and The Crossing and is furthermore funded by audience donations and the Bertha Foundation.
