The Look of Silence was awarded the Grand Jury Prize during Saturday's closing ceremony of the 71st Venice International Film Festival.
Director Joshua Oppenheimer and producer Signe Byrge Sørensen were already on their way to the Toronto Film Festival from Telluride Film Festival when the prize was announced. Helle Hansen, film commissioner at the Danish Film Institute, accepted the award on behalf of Joshua.
The Look of Silence also received 4 other prizes:
FIPRESCI Award for Best Film (International Film Critics Award)
Mouse d'Oro Award for Best Film (Online Film Critics Award)
Fedeora Prize Venezia for Best European/Mediterranean Film (European Film Critics Award)
Human Rights Nights Award
The film will have its first official screening at TIFF on Tuesday, 9 September.
