THE SHADOW BENEATH THE ICE
Director: THOMAS VINTHER LARSEN
CO-DIRECTOR: JaCOB GROSEN DANDANELL // VISUAL DIRECTOR: LOUISE MCLAUGHLIN
The offset to THE SHADOW BENEATH THE ICE is the incredible experiment in power that the establishment of Camp Century, a US military facility built underneath the Greenlandic ice sheet near the Thule Air Base, turned out to be. The film will be told through the personal stories that are forever shaped by and subjected to the perpetually tense relationship between Greenland, Denmark and the USA.
THE SHADOW BENEATH THE ICE will point straight into the current discussion about Rigsfællesskabet, which refers to the constitutional status of the commonwealth relationship between Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands and translates to “The Unity of the Realm”. But does this unity even exist? Voices from the past reflect on their role in history while a smoldering rebellion is growing among Greenlandic activists and politicians. A reckoning with colonial history is coming.
